On Tuesday 27 January 2004 shortly after 8pm, Apex fire units were dispatched to Old Jenks Road for a house fire. Capital FOOLS brothers JEFF SILVER and WAYNE BURTON were on the first-arriving unit, Ladder 1. Jeff reported heavy fire through the roof upon arrival. The residents had just moved out the week before, so the house was unoccupied, allowing for plenty of time for the fire to get well off before neighbors finally saw it venting through the roof and called 911.
Jeff led his crew on an aggressive interior attack, knocking the fire down in just a few minutes. With safety always at the forefront, Wayne threw a couple of ground ladders, and performed some much needed horizontal ventilation before joining the interior crew. The house had significant damage in the area of origin, but because of Jeff and Wayne's quick and aggressive fire attack, and the work of other members of the Apex, Fairview and Holly Springs Fire Departments, much of the structure was spared.
